In fall 2014, as part of our 30th anniversary celebration and focus on supporting people and organizations that are shaping the Future of Food, The Culinary Trust is launching our Growing Leaders Fund. TCT’s goal with this fund is to foster a culture of innovation, excellence and mentorship with grants available to applicants from a diverse group of culinary change-makers in the non-profit, education, and business arenas – teachers, chefs, policy leaders, writers, photographers, and others

The cause-driven grant opportunities include funding for programs and projects that address critical food system issue, such as child nutrition, cooking education, food access and combatting hunger, food sovereignty, environment and food labor. The Trust’s long-term vision is to create a diverse and vibrant community of culinary change-makers who, in turn, will become a part of the IACP and TCT communities and mentor the next generation.

At the annual TCT Fundraiser at the IACP in Chicago last March, past IACP President (2009-2010) Scott Givot, CCP, (left) and TCT board chair Ken Rubin announced the establishment of the first named grant in the Growing Leaders Fund. The Scott Givot Emerging Leaders Grant will focus on mission-driven leadership development in culinary arts and hospitality, and underscore the values of mentoring and leadership development surrounding critical issues in food – those traits embodied by Givot.

Growing Leaders grant opportunities and how to apply will be posted on our website by Oct. 5, 2014.  Please help us spread the word about the Growing Leaders Fund and encourage qualified candidates to to apply.

Growing Leaders Fund Overview

Intent:
Our Growing Leaders Fund has been created in celebration of the 30th anniversary of The Culinary Trust, to place increased emphasis on “Funding the Future.” The Growing Leaders Fund is a flexible fund to encompass cause-driven grants to support individuals and organizations that show promise for leadership, innovation and excellence in addressing critical issues in food and culinary arts.

Growing Leaders grants will be focused on addressing critical issues in food, including nutrition and health, labor, youth education, humanitarian work, culinary media and design, culinary innovation and international perspectives. As the Growing Leaders program grows, it will be open to other projects and funding opportunities that relate to or support the above mentioned areas of focus.

Growing Leaders grants will:
• Provide funding that will activate, support and fund a diverse group of innovative culinary professionals, in philanthropic, social entrepreneurship and small business arenas, to be effective change-makers and innovators in order to have a positive and lasting impact.
• Support culinary professionals who are addressing critical issues in food as framed by The Culinary Trust, such as youth nutrition and cooking education, combatting hunger and increasing food access, sustainability, food sovereignty, the environment and labor.
• Fund and foster strong leadership and vision in the world of food.

The Growing Leaders Fund is launching its grant program with the Scott Givot Emerging Leaders Grant, which is focused on mission-driven leadership development in culinary arts and hospitality, and underscore the values of mentoring and leadership development surrounding critical issues in food – those traits embodied by Givot.
