Our Growing Leaders 2016 Professional Development Program Launches With Slow Food USA and Slow Food International

The Culinary Trust launches our 2016 Growing Leaders Professional Development Program offerings today with an incredible opportunity to work with Slow Food USA to help coordinate and support onsite the Slow Food international biennial Terra Madre Salone del Gusto. Additional opportunities across the U.S. to be announced next week.

join and support their efforts to change the food system in the United States. The ideal candidate will have excellent attention to detail and strong enthusiasm for Slow Food’s work.

Slow Food is a global, grassroots organization with members in more than 150 countries and 1,300 volunteer-led chapters around the world. Slow Food was founded in 1989 to counter the rise of fast food and the disappearance of local food cultures. Today, they coordinate local, national and global programs and campaigns to achieve their vision of a world where everyone can enjoy food that’s good for them, good for farmers and workers and good for the planet.

The U.S. branch, Slow Food USA, is a national nonprofit with a small staff based in Brooklyn, NY and over 100 volunteer-led chapters nationwide. The Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2016 Intern will coordinate the participation of Slow Food USA in the international, biennial gathering of Slow Food communities from across the globe: Terra Madre Salone del Gutsto (more info: www.slowfoodusa.org/terra-madre-salone-del-gusto-2016).  In its 7th edition, Terra Madre Salone del Gusto is both a marketplace and conference exhibiting and strengthening the work of grassroots leaders who are inspiring cultural change through food and agriculture. The event will take place in Turin, Italy from September 22 to September 26. This intern will join a delegate of approximately 200 food movement leaders from the USA in Italy for the duration of the event, where s/he will be an integral collaborator with Slow Food USA staff in executing meetings, presenting the diversity of our nation’s foodways in a dedicated booth at the marketplace, and assisting delegates in reaping the full benefits of this opportunity. Attending Terra Madre Salone del Gusto is a life changing experience, which Slow Food USA is thrilled to make available to right candidate.

This individual will gain knowledge and skills in the areas of event planning, data management, basic html coding, communications, and an international perspective on food system issues.


Responsibilities include:
• Coordinate the Slow Food USA delegation of approximately 200 people including: creating and populating a Facebook group for delegates, collection of contact and travel information, distribution of materials in advance of the event, compilation of biographies for the delegation, scheduling delegate participation in our booth at the marketplace, on-site support of delegates in Turin
• Coordinate Slow Food USA staff’s participation in the event including: scheduling travel, arranging lodging, creating the staff calendar for the event
• Collaborate with supervisor to plan Slow Food USA programming (eg. national association meeting, taste workshops) for the event and to execute an attractive environment in the Slow Food USA booth
• Maintaining and updating the event pages on Slow Food USA’s website
• Liaise with colleagues from Slow Food International (based in Italy)
• Responding to general inquiries regarding the event

Dates of eligibility:
June 2016 start date
(specific start date to be agreed upon by successful candidate and on-site manager)
A minimum of 13 hours per week in the Brooklyn office is required. While in Turin, the intern can expect to work for up to seven consecutive days, averaging 8 hours each day. This is an up-to 300 hour internship to be completed over the course of up to 20 weeks. The successful candidate will receive a stipend of $2,450, roundtrip travel from NYC to Turin for the event, and lodging and meals during Terra Madre Salone del Gusto.

Eligibility and Qualifications:
• Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment
• Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to meet deadlines and work efficiently both in a group and independently
• A proven track record of planning and executing successful events
• Customer service, community organizing, or similar experience
• Commitment to inclusion, especially in regards to race, class, gender, and the food system
• Familiarity with Google work platforms (email, drive, etc.) preferred
• Background in global food issues preferred
• Language skills, specifically in Italian, French and/or Spanish preferred
Familiarity with Asana and/or Salesforce is desirable
