IACP Presents Milestone Award to the First Lady
Celebrating the One-Year Anniversary of Chefs Move Initiative
ATLANTA (June 6, 2011) - The International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) honored First Lady Michelle Obama with its Milestone Award at the 2011 IACP Awards Gala on Thursday, June 2 at the Paramount Theatre during IACP’s 33rd IACP Annual Conference in Austin, Texas. The award recognizes her Let’s Move initiative to improve the health of America’s children, and in particular, the Chefs Move initiative that invited the culinary professional community to play a central role in improving how children eat.
The award was presented by Karin Endy, Chair of The Culinary Trust, the IACP’s charitable foundation, who noted that nearly 100 culinary professionals from IACP joined chefs from around the country on the White House lawn for the launch of Chefs Move in June 2010. White House Executive Pastry Chef William Yosses accepted the award on Mrs. Obama’s behalf, with recent White House guest, Chef Jacques Pépin, by his side.
